ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke’s newest mayor and city council members were sworn in this afternoon.
Mayor-elect Joe Cobb’s term on city council as vice mayor doesn’t technically end until 2026, leaving a vacancy on the council when he begins his mayoral duties.
Roanoke City Council’s first meeting is set for Monday, January 6 where Cobb will start the process of finding a replacement council member.
“It will be an open application process, I feel most certain we’ll have people in the community that are interested in that seat send in an application and then we’ll determine the process from that point on.”
Joe Cobb
The City Council has up to 45 days to fill that vacancy.
