MONTGOMERY CO., Va. – Pulaski County Administrator Johnathan Sweet had his case dismissed in Montgomery County General District Court on Tuesday, according to court records from the Virginia Judiciary Online Case Information System.
Sweet was facing a Class 1 misdemeanor assault and battery charge.
As previously reported Sweet was charged with assault and battery after he allegedly grabbed a Virginia Tech student on Sep. 21.
The student said that she was not acquainted with Sweet.
Jonathan Sweet released this statement to 10 News:
“First, I’m thankful to God for allowing the truth to be revealed in court, for my attorneys Jimmy and Katie Turk who helped reveal that truth, and for all those in the community and throughout the Commonwealth who supported me during this extremely difficult time. -And it is important to know that it wasn’t just difficult for me, but for my family and all those close to me as well.
Fortunately, it was beyond obvious from the evidence presented in court, from the individuals who showed up in the courtroom, and by the way this fabrication was treated with the media, that I was clearly targeted as a public figure. But now that we know the truth and we understand what some of the motivations behind this false accusation were, I trust that my family and I can begin the process of healing and I can get back to focusing on my various roles in public service.”
