NORFOLK, Va. – A face that Hokie fans and many in our region know well, Michael Vick, will be the next head coach for the Norfolk State Spartans football program, the former NFL superstar and Virginia Tech quarterback announced on his Facebook Tuesday evening.
“It’s an honor to announce that I’ll be the new head coach of Norfolk State University... looking forward to coming back home.” Vick, who is no stranger to the 757, stated in his post, which has already garnered over 4.6k likes.

It was reported by multiple outlets on Monday that Vick was in talks with Norfolk State about becoming the next head coach of the program.
NSU had fired their head coach, Dawson Odums, in November of this year after posting a less-than-stellar 15-30 record during his four-season stint with the program.
There were also rumors and a report from ESPN that Vick had spoken with Sacramento State about their head coaching vacancy.
However, with Vick’s latest social media announcement, those rumors have been put to bed.
Vick has not coached at any level before, but the 44-year-old spent his 13 seasons in the NFL, and three seasons at Virginia Tech learning from some of the best coaching minds in the game.
Vick becomes yet another notable NFL alum hired by a college program in less than a week, after Bill Belichick was hired to coach the University of North Carolina football team just five days ago.
