SALEM, Va. – Slam Duncan’s Children’s Charities marked a significant milestone with the 20th anniversary of its beloved “Angels Helping Angels” event. The initiative, which began in 1995 with Slam Duncan’s first project, “Bikes or Bust,” has been a beacon of hope for families in the Roanoke area. “Bikes or Bust” itself provided 6,524 new bicycles to children in Salem, Roanoke, and the New River Valley.
“Angels Helping Angels” unites young volunteers from local civic organizations to shop for Christmas gifts. These gifts are purchased with funds raised throughout the year by Slam Duncan’s Children’s Charities, with additional support from iHeart Media Stations, WYYD, WJJS and Steve FM. The gifts are then distributed through the Salvation Army, bringing joy to countless children in need.
The event not only highlights the generosity of the community but also the dedication of Slam Duncan’s Children’s Charities to making Christmas brighter for those who need it most. Over the past two decades, the initiative has delivered more than 10,000 gifts to children, ensuring that the holiday season is filled with joy and hope.
