Community members have an opportunity to honor the legacy of Nikki Giovanni, the acclaimed poet, activist and distinguished Virginia Tech professor, who passed away on Monday after battling cancer for the third time.
A visitation for the public is scheduled for Saturday night from 5 to 7 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg.

Since her passing, tributes have poured in from former students, coworkers and even President Joe Biden, all celebrating Giovanni’s incredible life and the inspiration she provided to many.
Her contributions to literature and activism have left a lasting impact on countless individuals.
The university is planning a memorial service for February, with details yet to be announced. Giovanni was 81 years old at the time of her passing.
