VSP investigating single-vehicle crash that killed 36-year-old man in Wythe County Sunday

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police is currently investigating a single-vehicle crash in Wythe County that resulted in the death of a 36-year-old Sunday, according to VSP.

The crash occurred on July 7 on Interstate 81 just north of I-77, we’re told.

10 News has learned that a 2013 Volkswagen GTI was traveling north on I-81 when it ran off the right side of the interstate, struck an embankment, and overturned multiple times.

The driver has been identified as 36-year-old Francesco Digiorgi of Willowick, Ohio, we’re told.

According to VSP, Digiorgi was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. We’re told he died at the scene.
