What to do with your fireworks after the Fourth of July

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – July 4th has come and gone, which means it’s time to put away the fireworks.

Brian Clingenpeel, Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Community Outreach Coordinator said if you are storing them, you need to pick the location carefully.

He said they need to be in a temperature-controlled area, away from any ignition sources and definitely out of the reach of kids.

“I wouldn’t do an attic,” Clingenpeel said. “Many attics are not climate controlled and get very hot. Basement, closet, something like that.”

You can also turn them into your local Fire Marshal’s office.

In Virginia, it is illegal to possess any firework that explodes, rises into the air or travels laterally, or fires projectiles into the air.
