Police investigating after body recovered from Dan River

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Police Department is investigating after the body of a Danville man was recovered from the Dan River Thursday evening.

Police said the body of 68-year-old Fred Floyd was pulled from the river in the area behind Carrington Pavilion.

We’re told Floyd was tubing with others in the river when he got out of their sight. They found him in the water, unconscious and not breathing.

According to authorities, at 6:05 p.m., police and EMS responded to the scene, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The investigation is ongoing.
