Previewing local spots for Blue Ridge Games scavenger hunt

There are so many beautiful places here in Southwest Virginia, and if you’ve been looking for an opportunity to get out of the house and go see them — come join us for the Blue Ridge Games.

We’ve put together the perfect scavenger hunt for you. It’s a bucket list if you will of all the gorgeous places here in our region and some really cool businesses that you can go check out this summer.

So I decided to hop in the car, buckle up and go for a drive and visit some of the places on our scavenger hunt list across the Blue Ridge. And don’t forget, the journey is half fun.

The first stop of my trip, is the town of Vinton.

One of my favorite stops on the scavenger hunt list is the Love Works sign in front of the Vinton War Memorial. We’ve got a couple of these from across the region on our scavenger hunt list. So all you have to do is stop by, take a photo and you’ve earned points.

Some other great sites on the scavenger hunt list will take you to Bedford at Smith Mountain Lake, and when you’re done enjoying the water there, head to one of my other favorites — Fairy Stone State Park, where you can hunt for your very own fairy stone. This is just one of many I’ve enjoyed finding.

Another favorite is a natural wonder — the hunt takes you to see the 200-foot-tall Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County.

If you are looking for good music, head to Floyd and stop by a free concert in Warren G. Lineberry Park, then cool off or go fishing at Claytor Lake.

Another cool site is at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. For this part of the scavenger hunt, all you have to do is take a photo in front of the statue and then post it to Pin It.

Pin It is where you’ll submit all your wonderful photos and the location you took them at to earn points for the Blue Ridge Games.

You might even see them featured on WSLS 10.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s get out, have a great summer making memories with our friends and family and entering your photos for a chance to win cool prizes.

Registration opens Monday, July 1. For more information, click here.
