Avoiding pet panic this Independence Day

Tips for anxious pets during fireworks

The Fourth of July is next week, and as much as we may enjoy the holiday, our furry friends don’t always share that sentiment.

The RVSPCA tells us that the Fourth of July is the day most pets are lost each year.

But they say if you start now, there’s time to plan ahead.

First, talk to your vet about anxiety medication for your pets, and make sure it’s filled ahead of time.

Next, make sure you have a quiet space in your house for them, and get them used to that area ahead of time.

“Start now, get them acclimated to this quieter spot, put some of their favorite toys in there, you can put some soft music on in there if they tend to do well with that, so make sure it’s just a nice little hideaway for them,” RVSPCA Marketing and Communications Director Julie Rickmond said.

The RVSPCA has next steps for if your pet does get away from you this Fourth of July. You can find that information here.
