$7.9M in infrastructure grants for Virginia includes funding for Bedford County and Rocky Mount

Pete Buttigieg announced Tuesday that $7.9 million in infrastructure grants for three projects in Virginia including one in Rocky Mount and one in Bedford County as part of $1.8 billion in awards from the Rebuilding American infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity discretionary grant program.

“After decades of underinvestment, the condition of America’s infrastructure is now finally getting better instead of worse- and today we proudly announce our support for 148 more projects in communities of every size across the country.” Pete Buttigieg, Transportation Secretary, said.

The projects that were announced in Virginia will include $1,000,000 for the Highway 40 Corridor multimodal assessment and master plan in Rocky Mount. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the project will fund planning activities to identify potential mobility and connectivity improvements along 1.5 miles of highway between Booker Washington Highway and Main Street, as well as 0.7 miles of Tanyard Road off of Highway 40 to the North Main Street intersection.

10 News has also learned that $1,657,148 in funds will also go to a project on Route 122 in Piedmont and Bedford Counties. The project funds the development of an approximately 24.2 mile corridor plan along Route 122 from Wirtz Road in Franklin County and Jopa Mill Road in Bedford County. The plan will recommend safety, capacity and geometric improvements.
