Lynchburg man facing new charge in 2023 murder case

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A man accused of killing a Lynchburg mother is now facing an additional charge, according to court records.

Twenty-one-year-old Michael Perry III, of Lynchburg, is now charged with aggravated murder of a witness along with second-degree murder and unlawful disposal of a body.

Police believe he killed 20-year-old Avriel Hooks last summer—less than six months after she gave birth to their son.

Her remains were found in a wooded area in Amherst County off U.S. 60 following a week-long search, as we previously reported.
