American Legion Riders’ 7th annual Legacy Run makes a stop at VMI

Even with the heat, one motorcycle group is riding for a reason.

Friday, the American Legion Riders made a stop at VMI. It’s all part of the 7th annual Legacy Run, which raises money for different organizations across Virginia.

Last year, they brought in more than $120,000 in scholarships for the children of disabled veterans.

This year, they’re supporting the American Legion Veteran and Children Foundation, which helps to feed and house kids of service members going through a challenging time.

“If you help a family out in the long term, I think it’s got to help with the suicide rate. It is a lot of help out there, and we just want to promote that. We just want them all to get better help,” said Richard Siler, west commander for the Virginia Legacy Run 2024.

The group also took a tour of several buildings on post.
