ROANOKE, Va. – Habitat for Humanity is bringing back Women Build Week, and a group of women were hard at work in Southeast Roanoke Wednesday morning.
“I’m extremely appreciative and grateful that all the women took the time out of their busy schedule to come out and volunteer on my home for me and my children,” said homebuyer Andrea Archie. “I’m just so excited today. Today and this week this whole month, it’s gonna be exciting.”
It’s Women Build Week for Habitat for Humanity. On Wednesday, 20 women worked on a renovation build on Dale Avenue.
“I think the best part about Women Build event is that 76% of the people that we help in the Habitat homebuyer program here in Roanoke are single mothers. So, to have that as part of the catalyst for Women Build event is a big deal,” said Dave Tate, development director for Habitat for Humanity.
By late this year, this house will become a home for Andrea Archie and her family. She said it’s special to have women do the work.
“It’s like an extra amount of love put into my home...knowing that I have my fellow sisters out here providing so much dedication and care and commitment,” she said.
“It’s been great to meet the homeowner the eventual homeowner. Every time we do this, we get to meet the eventual homeowner it’s always very rewarding to see the appreciation to work with somebody. That’s going to get their own home,” said Catherine Bowman with VDOT.
“It’s just great to watch everybody like she said supporting each other,” said Susan Lambui with Source 4.
