LYNCHBURG, Va. – The goal is to uplift the community and reduce crime in Lynchburg. It’s a why a group is organizing community action events to make sure people come together civilly. Lynchburg’s Peacemakers is hosting “Peace Week.”
Events include a job fair for everyone including those who were formerly incarcerated as well as a Town Hall to discuss violence, crime and neighborhood revitalization. Volunteers want to make sure people think before reacting to violence.
“If you’re committing violent crimes, you got to be held accountable, for your actions, but those who we can reach and get jobs, and save them, we are with you, and we feel when you know better you do better,” Shawn Hunter, president of the Peacemakers, said.
Peace Week starts Friday and continues through Mother’s Day.
