ROANOKE, Va. – Funding and policies were top of mind during Monday morning’s joint Roanoke City Council and Roanoke City School Board meeting.
A variety of topics were discussed, ranging from cell phone policies for students to transitioning to electric school buses.
The groups also looked ahead to next year’s budget, talking about two grants the school district has applied for to fund school resource officers and security officers.
“That is something that prior, we have not had that grant funding, so we have budgeted to fund. We will continue to do that if we don’t have grant funding, as that is a priority,” said Roanoke City Public School’s Chief Financial Officer, Kathleen Jackson.
School officials also gave an update on the progress of moving administrative offices downtown and the opening of the new Charles W. Day Technical Education Center.
