19-year-old charged with first-degree murder after deadly Wytheville shooting

WYTHEVILLE, Va.UPDATE

A man is dead after a shooting overnight in Wytheville, according to Wytheville Police.

Authorities said Saturday at around 2:34 a.m., the police department was dispatched to a residential neighborhood at 540 West Spiller Street for the report of shots fired.

We’re told upon arrival, officers found a man in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. The man was identified as Chadrick Fink, 30, of Wytheville. Police said Fink was deceased upon the officers’ arrival.

Witnesses gave suspect and vehicle information, and the vehicle was located a short time later at 395 East Jefferson Street in Wytheville.

Authorities said the suspect, identified as Cameron Kinder, 19, of Wytheville, was taken into custody without incident, and the gun was recovered.

Kinder is charged with the following:

  • First-degree murder
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony

Kinder is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.

WPD said crime scenes were established at each location, and search warrants were obtained to aid in the investigation.

Fink’s body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.


UPDATE

The Wytheville Police Department said two crime scenes have been cleared, and all roads are open.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released once the preliminary investigation is complete.
