On Oct. 23, officers in High Point, North Carolina responded to the report of a kidnapping at a home, authorities said.

Witnesses told the officers that 18-year-old Fransisco De Jesus Delgado Arevalo went inside, forced a teen girl out with a knife, put her inside the vehicle, and then drove off.

It was determined that the pair knew one another and warrants were put out for Delgado Arevalo’s arrest, and a notice was put out to agencies in multiple states to be on the lookout for the vehicle involved.

On Oct. 24 around 1 a.m., Christiansburg Police officers V. Campos and P. Woodrum saw the vehicle on Riner Road, then followed the vehicle onto I-81N and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, according to CPD.

That’s when the Delgado Arevalo turned off the lights and a pursuit ensued, now with the help of CPD officer Sgt. R. Sobina, Officer B. Taylor, and two Virginia State Police Troopers.

Then, the vehicle crashed near mile marker 123.5 and Delgado Arevalo was arrested, officers said.

The 17-year-old female victim was inside the vehicle and was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said. She is expected to recover.

According to CPD, Delgado Arevalo is facing the following charges out of High Point, North Carolina:

  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • First-degree kidnapping
  • First-degree burglary
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Communicating threats

In Virginia, Delgado Arevalo is facing the following charges, authorities said:

  • Fugitive from Justice
  • Eluding Police
  • Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
  • Misuse of 911 system

“The Christiansburg Police would like to recognize all involved officers for their commitment to safety and vigilance in protecting our community and those in need,” the press release read, in part. “We would also like to recognize the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police who aided in the rescue of the victim and arrest of the suspect. Lastly, we would like to thank the High Point Police Department for their quick communication, which allowed CPD officers to be on the lookout.”
