DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Police Department is asking for your help fighting crime in the city.
The department announced its new real-time crime center initiative Tuesday.
It’s a cloud-centered service, that includes a camera registry - an online portal for citizens to register their security cameras to help solve crime in the community.
Registration doesn’t give police live action to cameras, it only gives them camera locations for if an incident occurs.
They could then contact camera owners if they need assistance collecting footage.
“It’s another huge tool in the toolbox are a data drive, technology-driven organization. We’ve been really on the forefront when it comes to technology and this is just another one of those aspects,” Asst. Chief of Services for Danville PD David Whitley said.
More information on the program, including how to register your camera, can be found here.
