Galax – A man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a Galax police officer at a Sheetz early Monday morning.
After running from police, Logan Allen was arrested in Allegheny County, North Carolina just before 2 a.m. Monday morning, authorities said.
Galax Police Chief Dewitt Cooper said the incident started after someone called and said they were worried about Allen, who was sitting in a vehicle in the Sheetz parking lot.
“They checked on him and they realized he did need some help. he started to struggle, he and the officer got into the car as he started the car, he drove away the car the officer fell out of the car,” Chief Cooper said.
The chief said there were rumors posted on social media about what happened that were incorrect.
“No shots were fired, none of our cars were damaged, nobody was run over. I tell everybody don’t believe what happens on social media,” Chief Cooper said.
Chief Cooper said the responding officer who fell out of the car was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is now recovering at home.
