86-year-old woman dead, another hospitalized following crash on Leesville Road in Lynchburg

Drivers are asked to use an alternate route and avoid the area

LYNCHBURG, Va.UPDATE

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a multiple vehicle crash that left one dead Sunday on Leesville Road.

Police said at 2:24 p.m., LPD officers and the Lynchburg Fire Department responded to the intersection of Del Ray Circle and Leesville Road for a three-vehicle crash.

When authorities arrived on the scene, one driver, an 86-year-old woman from Lynchburg, had already succumbed to her injuries, LPD said.

We’re told one other person from another vehicle was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The 700 block of Leesville Road is blocked until further notice, according to the Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services.
