CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – School resource officer funding is back on the agenda for Tuesday’s Christiansburg Town Council meeting after being tabled last month.
As we’ve reported, the town of Christiansburg pulled their funding for SROs within town limits, asking Montgomery County to fund and staff them instead.
The county countered back, hoping to find a way to compromise and keep Christiansburg officers in schools.
The agreement council is reviewing details of both the Sheriff’s Department and Christiansburg Police Department’s responsibilities if they split the role.
A statement released to 10 News by a Christiansburg Town Council spokesperson says, “The safety of all children is our utmost priority. Christiansburg Town Council is hopeful that the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will respond to and soon schedule the town’s request for a joint meeting.”
