ROANOKE, Va. – You can turn your firearms into a meal this weekend. The Groceries Not Guns Buyback event is happening Saturday, June 24. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Melrose Community Center on Melrose Avenue.

All guns must be in a closed box or safety container. Organizers of the event will need your name, address, date of birth, social security number, gender, and race. This information is all required by the state law. No other questions will be asked.

Catherine Koebel, Grant Writer and Event Coordinator, says, “We have given out over now I believe $34,000 in grocery gift cards. We have gotten almost 250 guns in the last two events, and we look forward to more success this next one.”

There is a limit of 3 firearms per household, and you must be 18 or older to receive a gift card.

Free gun locks will also be available at this event.
