Trial date set for man charged with first-degree murder in NW Roanoke shooting

ROANOKE, Va. – A trial date has been set for the man charged in connection with a Northwest Roanoke shooting.

The shooting happened on May 8 at The Cove at Peter’s Creek and left one man dead, as we previously reported.

Al-Sharreief M. Mahoney, 40, of Roanoke was identified as a suspect throughout the course of the investigation, and detectives said they obtained a warrant for him and immediately started searching for him. He was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force back in May, and 10 News obtained footage of the arrest.

Now, Mahoney is set to appear in court for a two-day jury trial on October 19, 2023, court records show.

He is facing two charges: first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Mahoney was originally facing a second-degree murder charge, as we reported.
