ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke authorities are investigating after a Roanoke City Detention Center resident was found dead early Wednesday morning, according to the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office.

Around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday (June 7), Roanoke City Sheriff’s Deputies were performing a routine headcount in the facility when they found a resident who was unresponsive in the housing unit, authorities said.
We’re told deputies immediately started CPR and called in medical staff and Roanoke City Fire-EMS for help.
After lifesaving efforts were exhausted, Roanoke City Fire-EMS pronounced the resident dead at 6:31 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The Roanoke City Police Department responded to the incident and is investigating, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office said there are currently no indications of homicide or suicide, and an autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death.
