HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – A man has been charged with second-degree murder after a woman was found on the side of the road with a gunshot wound, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said that a person called 911 after they found the woman on the side of Oak Level Road in the 6000 block just before 1 a.m. Sunday and said that she’d possibly been shot.

When deputies arrived, they said that they found the woman suffering from a gunshot and she was treated and taken to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. The person that found the woman also told authorities that he saw someone on the porch of a nearby home head into the woods.
The Sheriff’s Office, Department of Corrections and Virginia Conservation Police helped in the search with tracking dogs. Deputy J.S. Garber and his tracking dog, Gus, were able to find the subject hiding in a nearby creek.
The subject was later identified as Reuben Glass, 51, of Oak Level Road and was taken into custody. Police said that Glass had a handgun on him when he was arrested.
Glass was taken to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax, charged with attempted second-degree murder and held without bail.
