UPDATE - 11:28 a.m., April 18

Roanoke Commonwealth’s Attorney, Donald Caldwell, is releasing more details on a 7-Eleven shooting that left one person dead Sunday night.

Authorities have now identified the victim as Steven Crowder and say he was a customer that night who was trying to purchase a tobacco product.

We’re told an argument/confrontation allegedly broke out over the product and Isaiah Carl Baldwin, the 7-Eleven store clerk, reportedly shot and killed Crowder. Authorities say Baldwin immediately left the store afterward.

The Roanoke Police Department was immediately called to the store and obtained statements from witnesses at the scene and a review of video camera footage.

At 2:13 a.m. on Monday, a second-degree murder warrant was issued for Baldwin’s arrest, and shortly before 12:30 p.m. that same day, he was arrested by the US Marshalls.

On Tuesday morning, Baldwin was arraigned. He is set to appear in court on May 27 at 9 am. for a preliminary hearing.

7-Eleven, Inc. released the following statement in regard to the incident:

We are aware of the situation that took place in Roanoke on Sunday evening and our thoughts are with the family of the victim. 7-Eleven is cooperating closely with local law enforcement to provide any support necessary to determine the cause of this incident.
