DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. – 10 News obtained surveillance video that shows moments between Otieno and the men now charged with his death. The video shows some of what happened during Otieno’s holding and the 911 call made after he died.
The new video gives us more insight into the events that led to Otieno’s death, showing deputies gathering outside his cell at the Henrico County Jail.
They rush inside and prosecutors say Otieno was pepper sprayed in his cell. One deputy appears to strive Otieno multiple times before dragging him into an SUV.
He was then transported to a mental hospital where surveillance video shows multiple people crowding him. The 911 call from that day was also released.
“They’re doing CPR right now, and there’s no pulse anymore,” said someone inside the hospital who called.
“is the patient aggressive? Or is he not breathing?” the dispatcher asked.
“No he used to be aggressive so they’re trying to put him in restraints but he’s no longer breathing,” the caller responded.
Prosecutors believe the call was made after Otieno died.
The deputies and hospital workers charged in Otieno’s death will be back in court on various dates between late April and mid-May.
