An environmental crisis continues in East Palestine, Ohio after a Norfolk Southern train derailed earlier this month.
Concerns for water contamination continue to grow in the area, and even in surrounding states.
10 News reached out to the Department of Environmental Quality to see if anywhere in the Commonwealth is affected.
“We have not had, and do not anticipate any impacts to Virginia’s air or water,” the department said.
The department went on to say if a similar incident occurred in Virginia, there are local, state, and federal emergency plans in place.
We also reached out to Norfolk Southern to see what they are doing to contain the incident.
They said in part, “The air has been, and is continued to be, tested 24 hours per day throughout the evacuation zone and in the community outside the evacuation zone.”
