Town of Rocky Mount celebrates sesquicentennial

The year-long celebration begins Friday

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – The town of Rocky Mount is celebrating their sesquicentennial, or their 150th anniversary.

The town became incorporated on February 17, 1873.

On Friday, Feb. 17, the town will host a celebration at the Depot Welcome Center beginning at 4 p.m.

Town leaders also say they plan to host events to celebrate all year long.

They hope the year will be a time to reflect on the town’s past, present, and what they want for the future.

“We have storytelling, we have the opportunity to pass down some of the oral history in the area from some of the folks who remember it first hand, we have music. Rocky Mount is well known for our music,” said Daniel Pinard, the town’s cultural and economic development director.
