Virginia lawmakers are making a case for the new FBI headquarters to reside in the Commonwealth.
Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine are standing alongside Governor Youngkin to tell the GSA and FBI that Springfield is the best location for the new headquarters.
The organizations are in the process of finalizing a location after years of work on the project, which has spanned multiple presidents.
Lawmakers say putting the headquarters in Springfield would show the government’s commitment to furthering diversity.
“The FBI workforce, which used to be virtually exclusively white males, needs to look like the face of America,” Warner said. “And in Springfield, you have a community that is majority-minority.”
Other proposed site locations are Greenbelt and Landover, Maryland.
