WYTHEVILLE, Va. – UPDATE:
East Main Street in Wytheville has reopened after crews were investigating a suspicious package inside of a mailbox, according to the Wytheville Police Department.

On Friday evening, East Main Street was closed from Withers Road to Withers Lane because of a suspicious package inside of a mailbox, police said.
Once authorities seized the package, they said the area was all clear and reopened roadways.
According to Wytheville PD, Virginia State Police will be investigating the device and its origins.

The Wytheville Police Department has closed a portion of East Main Street after a suspicious package was found, the department said.
At 4:20 p.m., police said a “critical incident” was in progress, and that there was a suspicious package in a mailbox.
East Main Street is closed from Withers Road to Withers Lane, according to Wytheville PD.
Authorities are asking people to avoid the area.
