ROANOKE, Va. – A Roanoke man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a juvenile female, according to the Roanoke City Police Department.
On Saturday, Jan. 21, at about 11:50 a.m., authorities were alerted about an injured child at home in the 2100 block of Russell Avenue in Southwest Roanoke.
After arriving at the scene, authorities located a young girl who was unresponsive. Authorities say Roanoke Fire-EMS immediately transported her to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Roanoke police say there were an adult male and three other juveniles in the home, and after investigating further, they found that the young girl’s injuries were not accidental, as the man had told them prior.
On Monday, Jan. 23, Jonathan S. Anderson, 32, of Roanoke, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding in relation to the incident.
A day later, the girl passed away from her injuries, according to Roanoke Police Special Victims Unit Detectives.
After consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, detectives obtained a warrant for second-degree murder for Anderson, which was served on Jan. 25.
We’re told Anderson remains in the custody of the City of Roanoke Sheriff’s Office.
