LEXINGTON, Va. – Hundreds are set to gather in Lexington to commemorate Lee-Jackson Day.
The 24th annual celebration recognizes Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, who are both buried in Lexington.
Events began Friday with a symposium of speakers and historians.
The official state holiday was scrapped back in 2020, but organizers say they celebrate to honor their heritage.
“In recognizing them, we recognize all of our ancestors as well,” said Brandon Dorsey, commander with the Stonewall Brigade Sons of Confederate Veterans No. 1296.
Memorial ceremonies start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jackson Circle in the city cemetery, followed by the parade at 11:15 a.m.
