The person was taken into custody by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday afternoon.
Galax City Public Schools have returned to their normal daily activities, leaders posted on Facebook.
Susan Tilley, Superintendent of Galas City Schools, said no jurisdiction was named in the threat, so out of their shelter-in-place was out of an abundance of caution.
Tilley extended her thanks to teachers, staff, students, and families for being cooperative and working together.
The Galax Police Department extended their thanks to the Virginia Fusion Center, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, and Galax City Schools for their quick action.
Other local schools were placed on lockouts, lockdowns, and shelter-in-place on Wednesday, too. Schools in Lynchburg City were placed on a lockout Wednesday afternoon due to police investigating nearby incidents, and schools in Grayson County were placed on a “soft lockdown” due to a social media threat.
