CLIFTON FORGE, Va. – One middle school student in the Highlands is now facing charges after they brought an airsoft gun to school.

On Friday, officials said the Clifton Middle School resource officer was told a student might have brought an airsoft gun to school.
“The school resource officer responded within two minutes of notification, and the incident was handled promptly. The students and staff were safe,” said Alleghany Highlands Public Schools Superintendent Kim Halterman.
We’re told the incident was isolated, and charges against the student are pending.
AHPS leaders said they take any weapons-related incident seriously, including those that involve look-alike weapons.
In addition, school officials said anyone with safety-related information can contact the school or use the reporting feature on the school division’s website.
