Grand Home Furnishings in Downtown Lexington set to close

The store will be open through Saturday

LEXINGTON, Va. – A mainstay in Downtown Lexington for decades will be closing its doors soon.

“Grand Home Furnishings has been serving the Lexington area for many years. We are currently moving this location,” said Robert Jennings, Senior Vice President of Grand Home Furnishings.

Saturday will be the last day of business at the store.

The decision to move caught many people by surprise.

“The whole concept of that building, which has been operating out there since the 1980′s is a significant change on Main Street and came about as a shock to most people in Lexington,” said Lexington Mayor Frank Friedman.

“A lot of folks are sorry to see the downtown location go away, but it’s time to make the change,” explained Jennings.

Grand Home Furnishings leadership told 10 News a new location is in development.

As for the 30,000 square foot space on Main Street, it’s prime real estate for new business.

“Hate to see any business that departs but anytime there’s a change, there’s great optimism for the future,” added Friedman.

The city is hopeful that whatever goes into that location will have a positive impact on the community and will draw more people to Downtown Lexington.

“I would hope something that compliments downtown Main Street with retail and provides housing downtown which has been the goal of the city through a comprehensive plan and an aspiration for quite some time,” said Friedman.
