Danville to offer free bus service on Election Day

The goal is to encourage getting out to the polls

DANVILLE, Va. – The city of Danville announced that Danville Transit will offer free bus service on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Officials say the free service is to encourage those interested to vote by removing transportation as a barrier.

Free service will include fixed-route and reservation-based services. Officials say the fixed route service reaches most polling places.

Reservation-based Reserve A Ride is a door-to-door service throughout the city but is subject to capacity constraints.

The City Council voted this week to offer free Danville Transit service for this year’s general election, and also in the future for November general elections. Free bus service was previously offered for general elections, but required approval from the City Council.

This year, residents can cast ballots for the House of Representatives District 5 race, the City Council race, and the School Board race.
