Roanoke community hosts City Council forum ahead of election day

Candidates were asked about economic development plans, ongoing gun violence, and crime in the area

ROANOKE, Va. – Election day is quickly approaching and the Northwest Roanoke Community wants to make sure they get a feel for this year’s City Council candidates.

On Thursday evening, community members organized a City Council Candidate Forum to ask candidates on this year’s ballot some questions.

Locals asked candidates about economic development plans, ongoing gun violence, and crime in the area.

Questions were compiled by a commission. Audience members also got their chance to ask more questions at the end of the forum.

Jordan Bell, one of the forum organizers, said he hoped it would allow candidates to share what they would actually act upon.

“A lot of the times, politicians give answers they can’t actually accomplish. So I’m hoping to accomplish tonight that the answers that are given to the questions that are asked are things that the candidates can do once they are elected to Roanoke City Council,” Bell said.

10 News will continue to have election coverage leading up to and on election day, which is Nov. 8.
