Spooky Sprint returns for another year of costumes, running in Roanoke

Proceeds from the event will all go to the West End Center for Youth

ROANOKE, Va. – It’s time to get ready to put on your favorite Halloween costumes and those running shoes for this year’s Spooky Sprint.

The Spooky Sprint will be on Saturday, Oct. 29 starting at Wasena Park at 9:30 a.m, and costumes are encouraged.

Proceeds go to the West End Center for Youth which helps young kids in the Roanoke area. One of the programs they take part in is Runabout Sports’ ‘Badge Buddies.’

Co-owner of Runabout Sports, Ally Bowersock, said the program allows kids to have a more friendly interaction with law enforcement in the area.

“It’s important for the community, both the kids and the adults because you see them as people, so the kids see the police officers as people because they’re not just a badge and they’re not just a uniform,” Bowersock said.

Bowersock thinks the Spooky Sprint is both enjoyable because of the fun at the race and knowing it’s for a good cause.

“It’s so much fun because it’s Halloween-themed and it’s festive and family-friendly. But it also raises money for the West End Center for youth,” Bowersock said.

Admission for the 5K race is $30 until Oct. 26 at 11:59 p.m. when it will increase to $35, their website said.

According to their website, you can register to run at the event until 8:45 a.m.
