Police have confirmed that both the victim and the suspect are in the 7th grade. At this time, the relationship between the two individuals as well as what may have led to the assault is unclear.

The juvenile is currently being held at the Henrico County Juvenile Detention Home and has been charged with the following:

  • Malicious wounding
  • Felony stabbing
  • Possession of a knife on school grounds

One Brookland Middle School parent told NBC 12 that when he first learned of the stabbing, he was terrified.

“My heart dropped to my toes, and I said, ‘let me get over there because there’s too much going on right now,” Brookland Middle School parent Frank Lester said.

He continued, saying “He sent me an email saying, ‘come get me! Come get me! Come get me!’ I jumped in my car and flew and got over here because I wanted to find out if he was okay. Luckily he’s okay, so I can breathe now.”

NBC 12 reports that his son, Jayden Waller, didn’t learn about the stabbing from his teacher. He found out online.

“They just said we were on lockdown, and everyone had their computer out and saw everything saying that there was a stabbing on the news. We found out from the news,” Brookland Middle School student Jayden Waller said.

Henrico County Police says there is no threat to the community.
