Remake of The Little Mermaid makes *waves* on the importance of racial representation

Halle Bailey, a Black actress, has been chosen to play the lead role of Ariel in the remake

ROANOKE, Va. – A new Disney movie trailer is making waves online.

The Little Mermaid is getting a live-action remake with Halle Bailey, a Black woman as the lead, Ariel.

It’s sparking discussion about the importance of representation in movies and shows, specifically for children.

Child service expert at Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare, Cathy Brown said that representation like this is very important.

“It is important for children regardless of their race or gender of that matter, to have positive role models that emulate what they see when they look in the mirror,” said Brown.

The Little Mermaid film is expected to swim into theatres next Spring. According to Walt Disney Studios, the release date is May 26, 2023.
