ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. – Alleghany County is gearing up for its big Bicentennial Celebration.
There is going to be a festival at Mountain Gateway Community College, starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.
To mark the big milestone, the festival will have kid’s games, food vendors, a beer garden, local artists and craft vendors.
A car show will also take place displaying antique cars. The night will end with live music and a fireworks show.
County administrators say this is a great opportunity for the community to step back from their day-to-day lives and appreciate everything that has brought them to this point.
James Griffith, Vice Chair of Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, says, “You always have to look at where you have been, to make sure you are going forward in the future. To honor everything that has been done here over the past 200 years. That’s amazing. Two hundred years ago it looked a lot different than it does today.”
A committee designed a banner commemorating the county’s 200th anniversary. If you travel through different parts of the county, you will see them on display.
The milestone is also an opportunity to explore Alleghany County’s rich 200-year history.
