BLACKSBURG, Va. – A shelter-in-place that was issued at Blacksburg High School Thursday morning has been lifted, according to school officials.
This comes after authorities received an anonymous report that said a student had a hidden gun in the building. According to officials, no weapon was found.
The police department and canines were on the scene, working to keep students safe as they searched the building for weapons.
We’re told all students and staff are safe and accounted for.
Authorities say the school day will resume, beginning with the lunch schedule.
The school sent out a message to families, saying in part:
Thank you for your patience and understanding today. The shelter-in-place status was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all students. We are grateful to the student who submitted the report when they suspected that something was wrong, and we are grateful to the Blacksburg Police Department for their quick response to our needs.
