SALEM, Va. – A local group is addressing the critical need for wheelchairs at the Salem VA Medical Center.
From October to December of last year, the Knights of Columbus Council collected over 16 thousand dollars in donations from people across Southwest Virginia.
And with that money, they purchase 130 wheelchairs for $150 a piece, and 90 of them were donated to local veterans on Monday afternoon.
“I was in a wheelchair temporarily, so I know what the need was, and I know what the need was here,” said David Wyble, Grand Knight of Salem Council 10015 said. “And for people to get around they have to have a wheelchair.”
Wyble added that he is grateful for all the donations and he credits the community’s support for veterans in the success of their goal.
