DANVILLE, Va. – An 11-year-old boy is dead after he was pulled from the Dan River on Tuesday afternoon, according to Danville authorities.

Authorities said they received a call just before 4 p.m. The boy was reportedly last seen behind Woodall Chevrolet, officials said. Boats hit the water within 10 minutes of being dispatched, according to the fire department.
Officials said the boy was pulled from the water by members of the fire department and brought to shore where first responders started CPR.
The boy was then taken to the hospital where CPR efforts continued. He was later pronounced dead in the emergency room.
