‘Strong and resilient’: Lynchburg leaders present State of the City Address

An organization and four other individuals received mayor’s awards for their community services

LYNCHBURG, Va. – On Monday night, Lynchburg city leaders honored organizations and individuals during the State of the City Address.

Lynchburg Mayor MaryJane Dolan presented multiple Mayor’s Awards.

One of them went to Centra’s emergency department employees for their work on the frontlines during the pandemic.

Other awards were given to Public Safety Communications Supervisor, Pam Watson, Refuse Associate with the Public Works Department, John Rose, Nathaniel X. Marshall and Dr. Todd Olsen.

Mayor Dolan also spoke about the city’s economy, describing it as robust, strong and resilient.

“Over the past two years, we have seen business expansions, economic resiliency and involved residents. although we have not been immune to the challenges experienced by both the nation and the state over the past two years. We have through conservative fiscal management, a diverse economy,” she said.

Leaders also spoke about the $14.3 million worth of federal relief money given to the city.

They say the money was used to help citizens and local businesses survive the pandemic.
