The program allows residents to improve their parks by planting and caring for young trees.

It began last summer with a poplar tree sapling, named Philippe, that was donated by Plant Virginia Natives. The sapling was planted in a bare area of Grove Park and cared for by a nearby resident.
A tree planting kickoff event will take place on April 27 at 3 p.m. in Grove Park.
Both organizations will be present to provide instruction for planting and ongoing care.
Participants will also be able to paint river rocks to leave with their trees.
Sign-ups for tree adoptions can be done by emailing Dr. Stephanie Lovely, Facilities and Services Planner.
