ROANOKE, Va. – A woman has been hospitalized after a stabbing near Valley View Mall on Thursday morning, according to Roanoke Police.
Authorities said they responded to a business in the 4800 block of Valley View Boulevard NW around 9:30 a.m.

When officers arrived, they said store employees were detaining a man in a nearby parking lot who they believed was involved in the stabbing. Police later identified the suspect as Josue Acosta, 19, of Roanoke.
A woman had what authorities said they believed were serious, but non-life-threatening stab wounds from the incident. She was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police said they found the weapon used in the assault in the parking lot.
Authorities are still investigating what led up to the incident, but officers said they don’t believe the suspect and the victim knew each other beforehand.
Acosta was taken to the hospital for a brief medical evaluation before he was transported to Roanoke City Jail. He is charged with malicious wounding, and police said additional charges could be pending.
