ROANOKE, Va. – The Roanoke Valley Democrats held an event on Saturday at Kennedy Park to engage voters while also supporting local organizations.
Nonperishable food donations were collected for Feeding Southwest Virginia. Ukrainians of the Roanoke Valley were there to collect donations for those suffering in Ukraine and also to spread awareness about the war.
Organizers say they try and make these events about more than just politics.
“We believe in connecting with the public, it’s not about being an r or being a d, it’s about what the community needs, what needs to be done to service the community and help support and make more awareness of what’s going on in everybody’s lives,” said Chuck Simpson, a member of the Roanoke City Democratic Committee.
The Roanoke Valley Democrats hope to continue hosting these kinds of events at other neighborhood parks.
